Tom has been working with wood since he was a sophomore in high school, back in 1968. Right after high school, he served with the Coast Guard for four years. From there, he went to what is now Missouri State University and majored in Industrial Technical Comprehension – which included carpentry, metallurgy, and construction fields of study. During college, he remodeled homes and met his wife. After graduating, he worked in engineering at a Missouri-based electrical company for 35 years in engineering and in the field as a foreman, but was always developing his passion for woodworking. His favorite woods are mahogany and alder.
Tom is a wealth of knowledge, and any woodworker, of any stage, would benefit from a conversation with him!
It’s hard writing a description of a Jack of so many trades. We will say that the only weakness Andrew has is never wanting to take a break! When he’s not working for OP, he can be found doing new and remodeling construction. He’s been building officially since 1994, when he started learning fundamentals of structure and sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute. When he’s not doing that or chasing around his kids (and his wife, Jennifer!), he perfects his skid-steer skills on his land and throwing big family parties.
He ALSO has a book coming out, which we will offer on the site and in the store.
His favorite species of wood is between Walnut and Osage Orange.
Jennifer was one of the first employees when we moved to our new location. She has been a key player in the routine organization and measuring of inventory to ensure we know where we stand with our stock. When she’s not out measuring board footage, you can find her researching all types of lumber so that she can offer you the best advice!
Donna is our resident embroiderer and has been doing that for almost 20 years. She got her degree in Graphic Design right here in Springfield at Ozark Technical Community College. She’s also done a significant amount of work for colleges in Springfield. She knows a thing or two about commercial accounts! All the OP clothing that you see, she did! Donna helped a lot with the transition and we have her to thank for helping develop our brand image.
Josh is a Minnesotan to the core, who relocated to this beloved state in the Summer of 2019. He is also an accomplished artist and instructor at Missouri State.
Before moving, he oversaw the shops as a residency arts technician at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. He has worked off and on as a fabricator for museums and art institutions (universities and exhibits) for the past seven years. He also has taught at multiple colleges and universities over the past nine years.
Josh’s favorite wood is Douglas Fir, as he loves the classical look of it. His favorite year of music is 1994, but is always down to talk about any generation of music.
